About the Artist
I paint in the Folk Art style of Early American Folk Artists. This style reminds me of our history and adds a certain feeling to my paintings. It gives life to the past and to the present as well. As a self taught Folk Artist, I try to be as original as possible in my concept, creativity and design, using oil on canvas.
I love painting everyday scenes as well as cultural events and then listening to people discussing the scene or discovering things in the work that they relate to.
Initially I focused on farmland in California and did a series of “disappearing farms in America.” Current subjects range from childhood memories of growing up in California and travels across America in the late 1950’s and 60’s, to cultural events and celebrations. I will occasionally paint historical American places after doing extensive research.
Living part time in New Mexico, I am inspired to paint Native Americans and their ceremonies as well as the New Mexican landscapes and Hispanic cultural events.
I like to think that my work unites us in common experience or memories, and I hope you enjoy the view.
