I love painting historical scenes and decided I would like to paint this classic in Folk Art style. After researching the history, I found out about the boats they used, which were flat bottom, and about the flag Washing carried, which was his own from his militia. The "troops" were wearing their clothes, not uniforms for the most part. Horses and canon were put on rafts. It was bitterly cold and I tried to use coiler that would give the viewer that feeling.
